The California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulation applies to any trailer that wants to set one tire on a California Highway, regardless of where it is registered. It is a Smart Way Verified Technology, providing over 5% in fuel savings.

Trailer Requirements :

2011 MY and newer dry vans SmartWay Certified or retrofitted with LRR tires + 5% fuel savings aerodynamic technologies January 1, 2010
2011 MY and newer refrigerated vans SmartWay Certified or retrofitted with LRR tires + 4% fuel saving aerodynamic technologies January 1, 2010
2010 or older MY box-type trailers Same requirements as dry vans or refrigerated vans, as applicable January 1, 2013
